Since she was a teen, Kelsey has dreamed of opening her own small business. Over the years, the details of her shop changed... there were the dreams of a coffee shop, a book store, a bakery, a photography studio, and even a statistical consulting firm. Unfocused was founded to incorporate all of those dreams and to create space for the dreams that would come in the future.
Even though the items at our shop may seem a bit "unfocused" (we prefer eclectic and diverse), there is a common theme: political advocacy. Some of our items include postcards that you can send to your elected officials, LGBTQ+ pride yarn that showcases the many diverse identities within the LGBTQ+ community, and pins that allow you to wear your political opinions wherever you go.
Not all of our products are outwardly political. Many of them allow you to make a political statement through the businesses we are choosing to support like Homebody MN, a proudly trans-owned, Minnesota based, candle company.

Political advocacy work can be exhausting and self care is essential. Fiber arts fill that space for many advocates, including Kelsey, so our shop stocks a variety of fiber art kits and supplies. We'll also be hosting fiber arts classes, writing groups, and other social events. ​​
We know that being "unfocused" is typically viewed negatively, so we wanted to shift this narrative and create something both fun and beautiful. Our shop embraces neurodiversity and queerness, promotes political engagement and activism, and most importantly, seeks to be a space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to find joy and togetherness in a moment where connection is more important than ever.
